WHO ARE WE?
Friends of CORA Garden is a community garden located at 544 Oak Hill Rd, Pittsboro, NC at the home of Carol Newnam. In March of 2013 a group of volunteers organized to form the garden. The volunteers all have two things in common: a love for gardening and a supporter of CORA*
WHAT IS OUR MISSION?
It is our mission to grow fresh produce for CORA*, a food pantry serving Chatham County. CORA provides non-perishable foods to low income families and individuals in an emergency situation. The availability of fresh produce for the clients is unpredictable. It is our mission to improve the amount and quality of fresh produce available.
WHAT ARE WE DOING?
With the help of faithful volunteers we had a spring, summer and fall garden, producing more than 800 pounds of produce for the pantry. In addition to growing the vegetables we have participated in the following activities:
1. Plant sale- to raise funds for supplies for the garden.
2. Grew an 83 pound pumpkin for a contest at the CORA hunger walk.
3. Conducted a grapevine wreath workshop for the public.
WHAT DO WE WANT TO DO IN THE FUTURE?
We would like to increase the number of volunteers, involve families with children to come to the garden, and create an educational gardening program for the community.
HOW CAN YOU BE A PART OF THE GARDEN?
Volunteer by working at the garden, delivering produce to cora, helping with a specific project, such as: fund raisers, building a trellis, teach a class on a garden topic
Attend one of our garden topics programs
Donate cash, materials (tools, seeds, fertilizer, mulch, etc.)
Visit the garden to learn what you can do.
